The Data Protection Board provisions came into force. 2. **13 Nov 2026**The Consent Manager framework applies. 3. **13 May 2027**The core obligations apply: notice, consent, security safeguards, breach intimation, retention and data principal rights. The DPDP Act applies across India to digital personal data, whether collected online or collected offline and later digitised. It also applies to businesses outside India that offer goods or services to people in India. When do the DPDP Act obligations apply? The DPDP Rules, 2025 were notified on 13 November 2025. The Consent Manager provisions apply from 13 November 2026, and the core obligations on notice, consent, security safeguards, breach intimation, data principal rights and retention apply from 13 May 2027. Do schools and colleges need parental consent for students’ data? For students under 18, yes. Processing a child’s personal data needs the verifiable consent of a parent or lawful guardian, and tracking, behavioural monitoring and targeted advertising directed at children are not allowed. The Fourth Schedule to the DPDP Rules exempts educational institutions for specified purposes. Where are data privacy disputes from Pune decided? Complaints under the DPDP Act go to the Data Protection Board of India, and appeals from the Board go to TDSAT within 60 days.
