Deepika Kumar noted that such acts may attract charges of cheating under Section 316 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and, in aggravated cases, may also invoke human trafficking provisions under Sections 359 and 360, depending on the nature and scale of the offence.
