In a recent article for Business Standard, Rohitaashv Sinha provided valuable insights into the Indian government’s pay commission structure, specifically the significant changes brought about by the 7th Pay Commission in 2016. He highlighted that the 7th Pay Commission, which came into effect in January 2016, resulted in a substantial increase in the minimum basic pay for central government employees, raising it from Rs 7,000 to Rs 18,000. This adjustment was made possible through the application of a fitment factor of 2.57.

According to him, the pay commission, which is typically established every 10 years, plays a crucial role in reviewing and recommending changes to the remuneration of central government employees.
