Commenting on the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s (SEBI) position, Athira observed:
 “The regulator stressed that the definition of ‘related party’ only expanded in 2021, and that transactions which may now look problematic were not violations when executed earlier.”

Her comment talks about the importance of understanding regulatory timelines and evolving definitions in corporate governance and securities law. Athira highlights that retrospective interpretations can create market perceptions of irregularity, even where no violation existed at the time of execution.
