Aurelia Menezes Highlights Operational Gaps in MeitY’s NCII Framework

Commenting on MeitY’s recently released NCII (Non-Consensual Intimate Images) norms, Aurelia Menezes noted in a recent ‘storyboard 18’ article that while the framework is progressive in intent, its real-world implementation poses significant challenges. “The challenge lies in ensuring quick yet accurate verification within such short timelines. Smaller intermediaries will face capacity issues, while cross-border hosting and privacy safeguards in hash-sharing mechanisms need robust oversight,” she said.

Aurelia emphasised that the framework’s effectiveness will ultimately depend on coordinated execution. “The framework’s intent is progressive, but its success depends on how efficiently platforms, law enforcement, and cyber units coordinate to translate these norms into real, victim-centric action.”
Her observations highlight the need for strengthened infrastructure and collaborative governance to ensure that the NCII rules achieve their intended protective impact.
