In a recent article published by Business Standard, Deepika Kumari sheds light on the crucial legal aspects surrounding the loss of baggage during air travel. Drawing attention to the Carriage by Air Act, 1972, she emphasized that this Act, which incorporates international provisions from the Warsaw Convention, clearly outlines the rights and liabilities of both airlines and passengers in cases of lost, damaged, or delayed checked baggage.

Deepika noted, “Under this Act, an airline is liable for loss, damage, or delay of checked baggage while it’s in their custody. However, this liability has limits unless you’ve declared a higher value for your baggage at check-in and paid the extra charges.”
