Deepika Kumar Quoted in Mint Article on DoT’s Move to Block TRAI’s Bank Guarantee Demand
In a recent Mint article titled “Telcos Breathe Easy as DoT Blocks TRAI’s Bank Guarantee Demand”, Deepika Kumar shared insights into the regulatory dynamics between the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) regarding enforcement mechanisms.
Commenting on TRAI’s role, Deepika stated, “TRAI can recommend invocation of bank guarantees if telecom operators fail to comply with its directions, including non-payment of financial disincentives for violations like not curbing spam.” However, she clarified that “since the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) holds the license agreements, the final authority to invoke these guarantees lies with DoT.”
