Navod Prasannan Flags Economic Risks of Real-Money Gaming Prohibition

In a recent article published by Business Standard titled “Real-money gaming dealt a losing hand as crackdown follows ₹20,000 cr blow”, Navod Prasannan highlighted the significant economic implications of the prohibition on real-money gaming.

According to him, “From an economic perspective, the prohibition is likely to hurt an industry that contributes heavily to GST collections and employment, while simultaneously driving users to offshore, unregulated platforms.”
His remarks highlight a critical concern: while the industry contributes substantially to India’s tax revenues and job creation, stringent prohibitions risk undermining this growth trajectory and inadvertently pushing users towards non-compliant, offshore platforms.
