Sindhuja Kashyap Comments on Expanded Access for Overseas Individual Investors in Indian Listed Equities

The Ministry of Finance has notified an expanded framework permitting a broader class of overseas individual investors to participate in Indian listed equities, marking a significant step towards deepening foreign investment and enhancing accessibility to India’s capital markets.
Commenting on the development in a recent Business Today article, Sindhuja Kashyap highlighted the inclusive impact of the reform. She observed that the earlier framework primarily catered to Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), whose eligibility was linked to their Indian origin or ancestry.
According to Sindhuja, the revised approach addresses a longstanding gap by opening investment opportunities to a wider pool of global investors who may not have ancestral ties to India but are keen to participate in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. She noted that the move reflects India’s broader efforts to attract international capital and strengthen its position as an attractive investment destination.
