Rohitaashv Sinha Calls for a Broader Social Security Framework for India’s Gig Workforce

Rohitaashv Sinha was recently featured in Moneycontrol, where he shared his views on the next phase of social security reforms for India’s rapidly expanding gig workforce.
Commenting on the evolving regulatory landscape, Rohitaashv noted that while the existing framework lays the foundation by providing for insurance and pension benefits, it leaves several critical issues unaddressed.

He observed that the current provisions do not adequately deal with concerns such as minimum earnings for gig workers, algorithmic accountability in decisions such as worker deactivations, and accessible grievance redressal mechanisms. As digital labour platforms continue to grow, he emphasized that these issues are becoming increasingly important for ensuring fairness and transparency in platform-based work.
Rohitaashv further pointed out that states such as Rajasthan and Karnataka have already begun addressing some of these concerns through their respective legislative frameworks. Drawing from these developments, he suggested that the Central Government could incorporate similar protections into the national social security framework to create a more comprehensive and uniform regime for gig workers across the country.
