The government of Maharashtra notifies Maharashtra Private Placement Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2025
Considering the growing legislative attention towards regulating intermediaries in the labour market and ensuring accountability in private employment facilitation mechanisms, the government of Maharashtra has enacted the Maharashtra Private Placement Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2025 (“Act”). The Act mandates private placement agencies operating within or outside the state of Maharashtra to obtain a valid registration certificate from a designated registering authority and adhere to a defined set of responsibilities and ethical practices.
This Act recognises private placement agencies and subjects them to a regulatory regime. The Act also comprises of obligations such as timely reporting of placements, maintaining transparency in service charges, safeguarding job seekers’ data, among others regulations.
The Act also empowers a multi-tiered authority structure, including registering authorities, appellate authorities, and a state controlling and monitoring authority. This allows for checks and balances, and for appeals against wrongful denial or suspension of registration.
