To comply with the RBI's mandate to tokenize[1] all card data and to prohibit merchants and payment aggregators from storing card data, Mastercard has launched the ALT ID solution for guest checkout transactions (i.e., transactions in which the customer chooses to manually enter card details for each transaction). The technology will provide an alternative identification for genuine card numbers supplied by cardholders during guest checkout transactions on e-commerce platforms, improving online payment security for both retailers and customers.
