MoL&E issued a notification regarding schemes for Migrant Labourers

The Ministry of Labour & Employment (MoLE) has issued a notification detailing various schemes aimed at supporting both skilled and unskilled migrant laborers in India. These initiatives are designed to provide financial security and social welfare benefits to this workforce segment. Key schemes include:

  • Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY): Offers life insurance coverage to workers, ensuring financial support to their families in case of the worker’s demise.
  • Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY): Provides accident insurance, covering instances of disability or death due to accidents.
  • Atal Pension Yojana (APY): A pension scheme aimed at unorganized sector workers, ensuring a steady income post-retirement.
  • Public Distribution System (PDS): Ensures access to subsidized food grains and essential commodities for migrant workers and their families.
  • One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC): Allows migrant workers to access PDS benefits across the country, irrespective of their original place of residence.
  • Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) Welfare Scheme: Provides various benefits, including financial assistance, to construction workers.

These schemes are part of the government’s broader effort to integrate migrant workers into the social security framework, ensuring their well-being and financial stability.
