The government of Telangana issues draft bill of Telangana Gig and Platform Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2025
With the rapid growth of new age start-ups and companies providing quick delivery services of food, groceries, FMCGs, etc. it is expedient for the government to regulate the conditions of employment of the persons engaged by these start-ups and companies. For a long time, the persons engaged in such services were exposed to unfair employment practises which created an unfavourable job environment by depriving them of social security benefits, job stability, protection of unlawful termination, etc. To address such concerns the government of Telangana has made and released the draft Telangana Gig and Platform Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2025 which provides for social security measures, employment and service conditions, safety, health and welfare measures for gig and platform workers.
The bill provides for establishment of welfare board for gig and platform workers and its administration. The bill also makes provisions for termination of gig and platform workers, income security, working conditions and establishes a social security and welfare fund. The provisions shall be observed by the aggregators (a digital intermediary or a market place for a buyer or user of a service to connect with the seller or the service provider, and includes any entity that coordinates with one or more aggregators for providing the services) and the platforms (any arrangement providing a service through electronic means).
