Arrests Made In The ICMR Data Breach Case

– DECEMBER 18, 2023 The Delhi Police has arrested four police who are accused of orchestrating the breach in the database of the Indian Council of Medical Research (‘ICMR’).

The cyber unit said that the accused sold the personal details of affected citizens on the dark web. They were caught after they advertised the leaked data for sale on  the internet.

It has been reported that the CBI is also parallelly investigating this incident. This is a massive data breach as the personal data of around 81 crore Indian citizens has been compromised which includes their names, Aadhar details, passport details, contact numbers and addresses, and made available on the dark web.

Delhi Police have charged the accused with cheating and dishonesty under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 43  of the IT Act.
