The Central Government has developed the draft National Cybersecurity Reference Framework (‘NCRF’) to provide a non-binding uniform standard in the nature of strategic guidance for developing a robust cybersecurity system in critical sectors including telecom, power, transportation, banking & finance, energy, strategic entities, government entities and healthcare. The concerned entities are required to allocate at least 10% of their IT budget towards cybersecurity and ensure monitoring of such measures by their top-level management or the board of directors.

The NCRF will lay down the responsibilities of such entities under the existing rules, policies and guidelines.

The introduction of the draft framework gains significance in the backdrop of increasing data breaches across sectors.

NCRF is expected to be a ready reference that will constantly be updated to reflect new threats and technologies.
