– FEBRUARY 06, 2024; GOI is concerned about the asymmetry between those who create content and those who help the content creators monetize that content. The Minister for IT and Electronics, Mr. Rajeev Chandrashekhar said that the government is looking to addressing such asymmetry through the Digital India Act.

GOI wants the Internet to be free from any monopoly or duopoly of companies holding the reigns to monetization on the Internet.

Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Mr. Anurag Thakur said that the government is looking to bring in policies to address digital advertising issues and ensure that no revenue loss happens. He also said that there is a need to combat ‘misinformation’ and the ‘infodemic’ of fake news. 

Secretary of MeiTY, Mr. S. Krishnan, highlighted how current laws are insufficient to deal with challenges posed by emerging technologies. He spoke on the need to categorize internet intermediaries and having different regulatory regimes for each category.
